About Us     Contact

The Yunga Cruz takes us from the slopes of the Cordillera to the valleys of the South Yungas capital and a butterfly paradise. This is a trek going between snow capped Mururata Mountain (5.800 m), and Illimani (6.462 m). The beginning point is at Chuñuavi village (3.600 m), the highest pass at Yunga Cruz (4.200 m), and the end point is the subtropical zone at 1.800 m. The most exciting but hardest of the so-called Inca trails. Cobbled trails zigzagging down to the area of Chulumani. Trekking from an altitude of 4.500m to 1.500 meters. A pre-columbine trail characterized by the presence of the immense Illimani Mt. 6.480m; the trail crosses the entire mountain range and descends into the Yungas’s subtropical area. You will be sure to enjoy a variety of ecosystems, from the high mountain scenery down through vividly green forest of humid temperatures.

Day 01: La Paz –Khala Ciudad (3.650m. – 3.200 m.): Departure from La Paz by vehicle transport to the village of Chuñuavi (3.600 m), begin the trek and crossing the high pass of Yunga Cruz 4.200 m, then descending and the night camping at 3.200 m.  Today we will observe a different ecosystem with flowers and birds such as eagles, hawks, vultures and hummingbirds along the route. We need to reach the pass at 4.300m on the hill of Khala Ciudad (Stone City) an incredible view from the Cordillera Real can be enjoyed from there if the weather is good. We will set up our tents night camping.

Day 02: Khala Ciudad - Solaka Punta(3.200m): The vegetation turns dense and the temperature increases. Our pathway will get wider and we will observe the deep depressions of this humid area during the early season when few people have passed through. A machete is a useful piece of equipment since the vegetation might obstruct our way. From this point we continue to the right of the hill and start climbing down and find our camping place in Durasnuni’s area..

Day 03: Solaka Punta – Duraznuni - Chirca (2.610 m.): After crossing the last stream (and the last water point) of the day, we finally enter the jungle and a thicker vegetation. We may encounter on the way a few gold miners gone to try their luck in some of the yet unexplored valleys of the area. We set up camp on a flat spot with amazing views. In the evening, pay attention as it is not rare to have the visit of a jucumari (small Andean Bear).

Day 04: Chirca – Ocobaya - La Paz (1.852 m. – 3.650 m): Hike and descend trekking. After a nice and easy trek we will arrive at a road into the village of Ocobaya, a small colonial town. We will find good viewpoints as well as coca leaf terracing plantations. From this point our trail will soon turn into a dirt track down to the Chulumani Village (Capital of the South Yungas section), time to wonder around, after lunch, we will drive back to La Paz.  Arrival to your hotel and en of our services.
