TRANSCORDILLERA REAL TAHE 10

It is an extraordinary trekking along the Royal Mountain range Or Cordillera Real through old trails. This trek leads us along the western side of the Royal Range as you cross beautiful valleys and high passes (at about 5.000 m), you will make contact with local aymaras peoples and enjoy the high land is of unspoiled nature, its flora and fauna, such as the Condors and countless llamas and alpacas along the valleys. The noble llama carries all the supplies for us on this trip. You won’t ever feel lonely because at night the Southern Cross star (Estrella Cruz del Sur) will shine for you together with the moon. The constellations can be seen with astonishing clarity. It is advisable to be in good shape for the hike.

PROGRAM

Day 01: La Paz city - Sorata (3.650 m. – 2.700 m.): Departure from La Paz by vehicle transport to the village of Sorata(2.700 m.a.s.l.) 4 hours driving,  Lunch.  Afternoon visit to San Pedro caves. Back to Sorata and have dinner, night in a tourist class hotel.

Day 02: Sorata – Lackatiya (2.700 m. – 4.000 m.): Beginning of the trekking from Sorata and walk up to Lackatiya stanza (4.000 m), enjoying the scenic mountain. We arrive to Lackatiya where we set up the tents. Trekking 6 hours.

Day 03: Lackatiya – Ancohuma (Up to 4.789 m.): Trekking day from Lackatiya to Ancohuma (4.050 m), this day will hike across the Mt. Illampu pass (4.789 m). We reach the small village of Ancohuma. Along the way it is possible to observe corn plantations, lagoons, and birds, then we find a good spot for our camping night. Trekking 6 hours.

Day 04: Ancohuma – Cocoyo (3.600 m.): Trek from the village of Ancohuma to the village of Cocoyo (3.600 m). We will start a gentle walk, and observe old gold mines, snow caped mountains and natives working in these remote areas once used by ancient cultures, we will enjoy the view of Mt. Jankouma(6.490 m)  one of the most popular impotents in this area. Hiking down hill to find the village of Cocoyo and arrive to our camping place. Trekking 6 hours.

Day 05: Cocoyo – Chacolpaya (4.200 m. – 4.800 m): In the morning we will visit the traditional village of Cocoyo, then continue the trek to Chacolpaya village (4.200 m), crossing the high pass of Zarani (4.800 m).  This day we will observe the Chiaroco Mountain, and the beautiful valley of Chajolpaya, located in a huge plateau divided by a winding river, then in the afternoon will set up our camp in the splendid nature of Chajolpaya valley. Trekking for  7 hours..

Day 06: Leisure day: Optional: Rest day or excursion to the high Calzada pass (5.000 m). Cordillera Real the high magnificent point. Return to the camping place. Trekking 5 hours.

Day 07: Chajolpaya-Negruni (Up to 4.960 m.): This day, the trail is quite steep, and we need to keep on waking uphill and reach the Negruni high pass at 4.960m. getting closer for a nice view of the glaciers, after the pass, we descend to 4.240m, where we set our camping. Trekking 7 hours.

Day 08: Negruni-Lloco Lloconi (4.000 m. – 4.220 m.): After breakfast, we are ready to descend slowly to Palca valley, where there are several small plateaus and scenic views of this valley; we walk along Chiquinis´ River with an altitude of 4.000m. We continuing the soft hiking up hill and then camping at 4.220m. Trekking 5 hours and a half.

Day 09: Lloco Lloconi-JankhoLacaya (Up to 4.800 m.) Today is quite a hard one. We will have to get across two mountain high passes, walking near the skirts of the mountain; until we reach the pass at 4.800m from there the views are beautiful, in the afternoon we arrive to a large grassy plateau, Janqu Lacaya 4.620 m.  We will be set up our camping. Trekking 7 hours.

Day 10: Jankho Lacaya-Quta Thiya (Up to 4900 m.): Trekking takes us the next valley where we will see many torrents of water. We croos the Mollo high pass (4.900 m.) and then we continue descending to Quta Thiya Lagoon 4.350 m.  it is a valley protected by granite peaks and camping. Trekking 7 hours.

Day 11: Quta Thiya. –Ajuani Lagoon (4.800 m.- 4.450 m.): After breakfast , we start our hiking up to the pass, and we start descending until we get to a beautiful lakes around. 4.450m. then we slantingly ascend to the east of the lake Chiara Khota, and reach the pass at 4800m. In the afternoon we arrive to the Ajwani Lagoon, night camping. Trekking for 4 hours.

Day 12: Ajwani- Jurikhota Lagoon (4.700 m. -4.500 m.): We ascend through a mountainous path, we cross the pass of 4.700m. That allows us to observe the impressive “Huayna Potosí”, and to descend to a place for an ideal camping site, in the lagoon Janchallani 4.500m. 6 hours of trekking.

Día 13: Jurikhota- Chiara Khota Lagoon (4.600 m.- 5.396 m.) : This day we will see the impressive snow-covered top of the colossus “Condoriri” walking near the Austria peak (5.396 m.) and from this step we begin to descend until to the base camp of the Tuni Condoriri lagoon, after  long walk we find the Chiara khota at 4600m. Trekking 7 hours.

Día 14: Tuni Condoriri- La Paz (4.600 m. – 3.560 m.): After long days of our trekking traverse, we will have an easy and short descend until Plaza de Llamas two hours walk where the transport will be waiting for us and return to La Paz city. Driving for 2 hours. Arrival to your hotel and end of our services.

Note: This is a High Altitude Hard Trek (Every day walking 6-7 hours). A vehicle will meet us with fresh supplies from La Paz during this trek every 4 or 3 days.
