PERU Mollepata - Salkantay – Machupicchu (Trekking) IHE 01

Begin the world-famous trek on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with a fabulous trek in the less-traveled, spectacular region near snow-capped Mt. Salkantay.  This adventure is the ultimate Inca Trail experience! This fabulous trip begins with a spectacular trek in the Andean Highlands near snow-capped Mt. Salkantay before joining up with the world-famous Inca Trail to trek into Machu Picchu. Leaving Cusco we reach the road head past highland plateaus and a view of the snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Vilcabamba. The trail slowly ascends to a camp below Mt. Salkantay. We go over a high pass to continue on a back-country trail, rocky in places until we join the famed Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.


Day 01: Cusco – Soraypampa: Early in the morning, we pick you up from the hotel and trip to the village of Mollepata (2.830 m). Arrival in 4 hours to Mollepata and from here our adventure begins. We walk for 4 hours admiring the great diversity of flora and fauna. Afterwards we get to Silcakancha, the site planned for our lunch. We continue the journey and after 3 hours we arrive in Soraypampa (3.700 m) where we have dinner and set up the tents.

Day 02: Soraypampa – Colpabamba: We start the hike to Soraypampa (3.700 m) until we get to Colpabamba (3.400 m.). We also cross a summit of 4.650 meters and admire the mountain range of the Andes and the impressive Salkantay Mountain (6.271 m). After contemplating such beauty we descend and then have lunch. After 1 hour we continue on the hike until we get to Colpabamba (2.800 m) characterized as a tropical zone and noted for the presence of mosquitoes. Here we set up the tents and have dinner.

Day 03: Colpabamba – Playa: At 06:45, we wake up and have breakfast. We continue our hike until we get to Lluscamayu, a place to have lunch. On the way we visit Inca bridges, and observe the exotic flora and fauna of the zone. After 2 hours we arrive in La Playa (2.200 m), a small village, where we set up the tents, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 04: Santa Teresa – Aguas Calientes: This day, we go by transport  and head off to the village of Santa Teresa (1.650 m). Right away we go for a small walk for 1 hour in the direction of Oroya crossing the Urubamba River. Later we take the transport which takes us to the hydroelectric plant where we have lunch. After 1 hour we start the hike towards the picturesque village of Aguas Calientes (2.050 m) arriving there after 1 hour and a half. Night in a hostel to have dinner and rest.

Day 05: Machupicchu: Pickup you up from the hotel and take a bus to the famous archeological site of Machu Picchu at mid-morning, spending most of the day at this bewitching place, with both a guided experience of the highlights and then time to explore the ruins on our own. In the afternoon we complete our journey, traveling by train to Cusco. transport to Cusco-Mollepata. Arrival to your hotel and end of our services.
