INTERSALAR - COLONIAL CITIES OHE 08

This program invites you an adventure 4WD ride and a cultural visit in Bolivia. The famous Salar of Uyuni is a unique and fascinating spectacle. When it is dry, its brightness dazzles. Otherwise, during the rain season, it is flooded and becomes a real mirror where the sky and the volcanoes reflect themselves. If you go across the Salar in one of these moments, you will feel flying in the sky in the middle of these volcanoes. The city of Potosi has a prestigious past. The silver mine whose resources appeared nearly inexhaustible during several centuries built up the city where wealth and abundance didn’t have more equivalent than the extravagance and the decadence. Today from the entire city’s past luxury just remain some works of art and of architecture. Potosi has been classified by the UNESCO as world heritage site.

Call it Sucre, La Plata, Charcas, or Ciudad Blanca, the city of Sucre has a rich, varied history and a wealth of historical architecture deserving of the selection as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.  Sucre in the splendor time of Potosi it was the residence for women and children of the Spanish nobles of Potosi because its climate is a much more merciful than the Potosi’s. Sucre not only gathered the political and judicial powers, it was also the intellectual and theological center of the former Spanish colony. Even today it is nice to live in the slightly outdated and nonchalant ambiance of Sucre. There are many good museums in the city, among them the Plaza de la Libertad museum, the University museum and the Indigenous textile museum.
