The highest mountain in the Cordillera Apolobamba is Chaupi Orco means in Quechua language “Middle Peak” and it is located exactly at the middle of the Apolobamba Mountain Range.

The Southern Chaupi Orco with its 6.044m high is the highest summit in the Apolobamba Mountain Range; it is very little frequented due to its distance. Besides being a not very well-known summit among the climbers.

Day 01: La Paz – Pelechuco (3.600m): We pick you up from the hotel and departure from La Paz city  by private vehicle to a long day crossing the Altiplano to reach the north part of the Titicaca Lake, the Apolobamba Mountain Range and the great plain of Ulla Ulla. We continue on a mountain highway to the Pelechuco town (from 12 hours trip). We spend the in a local accommodations.

Day 02: Abra Sanchez pass – Base camp (4.150 m): Early in the morning by vehicle transfer at the Abra Sanchez pass(4.790 m.), from there we take 3 hours trip to Utañani where we leave the vehicle. From there it starts the 6 hours approach and crosses the Purapura pass (4.700m) and immediately descends to Soral Lagoon (4.150m) to arrive to the base camp of the Chaupi Orco South. Night camping.

Day 03: High camp Chaupi Orco (5.150m): After breakfast we  hike 4 hours to the high camp of the Chaupi Orco is from its very beginning very tough and it goes until the moraine of the glacier that is relatively exposed. We climb on the moraine until reaching the high camp. We set the camp.

Day 04: Summit Chaupi Orco South (6.044m) – Base camp (4300m): Early in the morning we ascent to the summit of the Chaupi Orco South. Before to reach the summit, we will find an entire series of summits and to finish a much segmented edge full with cracked and quite long passages that will lead us to the Chaupi Orco summit. (13 hours in total of climbing and return to the base camp).

Day 05: Base camp – Pelechuco (3. 600m): After breakfast, departure from the base camp we return to Pelechuco  and we spend the night in a local accommodation.

Day 06: Pelechuco – La Paz city: From Pelechuco we return to La Paz by private vehicle. Arrival to your hotel and end of our services.
